The Rooney Pole Mount allows a surveyor to place a prism on or against static objects. It can support various types of prisms, and is fixed to an object via a velcro strap.

The Rooney Pole Mount allows a surveyor to easily carry six or more Pole Mounts over their shoulder, thus doing away with the limitation of carrying only one (or perhaps two) tripods and their associated traverse kits and prisms. This, in turn, reduces the number of potential trips back to the work vehicle to collect more equipment.

The Rooney Pole Mount is a worthy addition to any surveyor's kit. Its use as a site control point allows the surveyor to mount a prism where a tripod cannot be placed, as well as granting the surveyor the ability to place a prism where a tape target might otherwise be used.

The Rooney Pole Mount does not contain any sort of vertical or horizontal plummeting system. As is the case with a tape target, this system cannot directly aid in the placement of recovery marks or permanent stations and control points.

However, unlike a tape target, the Rooney Pole Mount allows for the use of onboard automatic prism targeting software to lock on to the prism. Furthermore, with the prism's central axis being offset from the centre of the chassis, the Pole Mount allows the surveyor to traverse around corners in less steps.
